Details/Backstory: Rune Spark is fascinated by magic and always wanted to study it but his magical strength was always very weak when he was young. so since he would never be strong enough to practice the kind of magic unicorns like Starswirl the Bearded or Twilight Sparkle could do, he discovered a strange and unorthodox style of magic that had little to no solid research or development on. this magic was done using the medium of strange arcana circles and formulas, much more scientific and precise than regular unicorn magic.
Using his horn only to draw and power the circles, he was able to begin studying them, and likes to stay up late trying to think of new spells. he developed an addiction to coffee because of this. his magic has grown much stronger through his years of study but he still lacks the kind of fundamental skill to perform more dynamic spells.
other details:
▷he looks like he’d be grumpy from lack of sleep but he is actually mature beyond his years and almost never looses his cool with anyone
▷As a colt, when he discovered hislove of magic circles and got his cutiemark, he was teased in school for being “that weird cult lover”, based solely on his appearance of being a dark unicorn with some weird symbols as his cutiemark
